FAQS: COFFEE MACHINE MILK SYSTEM CLEANING
HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU USE THE MILK SYSTEM CLEANER?
Carefully tear the top of the sachet and empty the powder into 200ml of warm water. Stir in until completely dissolved. Run the milk system cleaning program as set out in your appliance’s instruction manual. Rinse through with clean water afterwards. Use every two weeks alongside frequently detaching and parts and cleaning in hot soapy water.
WHY CLEAN THE MILK SYSTEM?
Any container or other part of an appliance coming into contact with milk will need regular cleaning. Bacteria found within milk multiples rapidly if not cleaned away properly in the warm and moist conditions of a coffee machine. It’s a good idea to rinse pipework if the appliance hasn’t been used for a period of time. Not cleaning the milk systems can also impact its ability to froth the milk.
HOW FREQUENTLY SHOULD YOU CLEAN THE MILK SYSTEM?
It’s a good idea to clean once a week and rinse through the appliance after a period of use. Most parts can be cleaned under a running tap. A pipe brush is ideal for any milk tubes. Refer to your appliance’s instruction manual for the specific steps. Some items may be suitable for the dishwasher. If left too late the smell or taste of the milk will be effected. Finer parts of the milk system could be blocked and prevent milk passing through. A deeper clean using a targeted cleaning product is recommended once every two weeks for typical use.
THE APPLIANCE IS PRODUCING LITTLE OR NO MILK FOAM?
This could relate to a fault with the appliance but more likely a clean is overdue. If you live in a hard water area it could be the result of limescale building up and therefore a descaling program may also be needed. Make sure the steam wand is cleaned after every use if your appliance has one.]
DOES USING DIFFERENT TYPES OF MILK CAUSES CLEANING PROBLEMS?
Any milk product with additives should be avoided. Often sweeteners are added which when heated can become sticky and block the fine tubes of the appliance. The same is true of carmalised coffee products which can have the same effect on the brewing unit of the coffee machine. Typically pasteurised dairy milk is only recommended.
CAN CLEANERS BE USED ON OTHER PARTS OF THE MILK SYSTEM?
Yes our milk system cleaner can be used to clean other sections of the milk system. Fully dissolve one sachet in 200ml of water and soak the parts needed. If you want to clean other parts in the dishwasher, always check they are dishwasher safe before doing so. Always rinse off fully with clean water before reattaching to the coffee machine.
HOW TO CLEAN THE STEAM WAND?
The steam wand should be wiped down with a damp cloth directly after every use. The heat of the wand will cause any milk residue to dry onto the wand and come into contact with the next milk frothed.
THE STEAM WAND IS DRIPPING WATER
If your coffee machine’s steam wand is dripping water, struggling to generate steam or not producing foam it could be a clean and descale is overdue. The wand can be detached and throughly cleaned and a descaling program should be run. Always wipe down the wand after every use.
