Caffeine, a naturally occurring stimulant found in coffee and other beverages and foods, has a half-life of approximately four to six hours. The half-life refers to the time it takes for your body to process and eliminate half of the caffeine you consumed. During this period, the effects of caffeine gradually diminish. Even after several hours, the impact of caffeine can still be felt in the body. It can keep you feeling alert and awake, potentially interfering with your ability to fall asleep.
Caffeine blocks adenosine, a chemical responsible for inducing tiredness in the body.
